BenCab Museum

Philippine National Artist Benedicto Cabrera a.k.a. BenCab offers a cultural experience in the Summer Capital of the Philippines, Baguio City.  Next to his residence and workshop is the BenCab Museum.  It houses works of various contemporary artists and of BenCab himself, including portraits of his iconic muse Sabel.  In his gallery, you will discover other BenCab pieces, which to me are even more beautiful than Sabel who impressed to be intriguing and controversial.  The museum also exhibits a collection of bulol, rice gods and artifacts from the Cordilleras – my personal pick of gallery in the museum.

For a leisurely visit, you may want to dine at Café Sabel, located at the bottom of the museum.  It’s overlooking a valley garden, a pond and a mountain range.  Ingredients to its signature dishes are mostly grown from the in-house farm.  Indulge!  Then you may arrange for a guide to take you on an eco-trail and go home guilt-free.
