Weekly Photo Challenge: MASTERPIECE

National cultural treasure Betis Church keeps a masterpiece on its fifty-meter long ceiling.  Painter Simon Flores did the original painting mural in the 1800s.  In 1939, local artist Macario Ligon was commissioned to repaint the ceiling to further beautify the interior of this baroque-inspired church in Pampanga, Philippines.  Then Ligon’s apprentice Victor Ramos who specializes in ecclesiastical painting restored most part of the ceiling painting when termites infested the wood panels in the 1970s.  Betis Church is christened as “the Sistine Chapel of the Philippines.”
